The History of Ardery’s Antiques

Our building. . . . . .

Historical Storefront

Ardery’s  Antiques  is situated  on Main Street,  Paris, Kentucky – the center of beautiful thoroughbred horse country – in a newly renovated J. J. Newberry’s  building.  Built in the late 1930s, J. J. Newberry’s was a thriving five-and-ten-cent store of approximately 8,000 sq. ft., with window frontage covering 1/3 of the block,  which is a great footprint for showcasing antique furniture!

The original soda fountain is still intact, adding to the antiquarian atmosphere and fun of the shop.  We’ve had quite a few customers coming in to reminisce about how they worked here as teenagers, met their spouses here in the 1950s--- which led us to begin our “Wall of Fame” in the fountain area of current photos and names of customers who used to work here and how they look now.

Ardery's

Ardery’s Antiques actually began in the 1990s in Nashville (Franklin), Tennessee, however “Ardery” is an old central Kentucky family name of  English descent, with the Kentucky branch of Ardery’s originating here in the late 1700’s.  The family tree hangs in the shop along with a copy of the Ardery family coat of arms.

“Lil's Coffee Place" located in Ardery’s Antiques . . .

Lil's Coffee Place was a soda fountain within the “Dime” store years ago. Today it still looks much the same, with new paint and wallpaper.   The counter, stainless back-counters and bar stools are all original – the stools were just covered with new leather.  The “workings” of the kitchen area are also original.
